Bowen Therapy
Bowen Therapy uses a simple non-invasive technique to treat a broad range of conditions from sports injuries to chronic complaints from motor vehicle accidents. The Bowen Technique is an essential tool to facilitate whole body healing from chronic aches and pains. It is safe to use on anyone from infants to the elderly, and produces long lasting relief from pain and discomfort. Dr. Dhiman has directly studied under the creators of Bowtech, Ossie and Elaine Rentch, as well as with Dr. Manon Bolliger.
The Bowen Technique is a holistic, non-invasive form of bodywork. In this technique, a few gentle moves are performed over muscles and soft tissues to stimulate the body to begin to heal itself, and to reset to its natural pain free blueprint. The Bowen Technique is deeply relaxing, and breaks the cycle of pain and inflammation occurring in the body. Decreasing pain and inflammatory pathways allows the body to be in a restful or parasympathetic state, versus its previous stressed state. Great things happen when the body is in a restful state: quality of sleep improves, nutrients to the cells improve, lymph drainage occurs, and toxins are removed from the body more efficiently. Being in a restful state allows the body to heal. This is why the theory of Bowen, like homeopathy, is "less is more."
Brio Bowen practitioners view Bowen as a type of physical “drainage” technique. The whole body is addressed, rather than just the symptoms the patient presents us with. The therapist will perform a series of gentle movements along the spine and specific points on the body. The movements are similar to the action of plucking a guitar string, and they work by subtly rolling muscle, nerve, tendon and connective tissue. During the treatment, specific breaks are taken between sets of moves, where the therapist physically leaves the room to allow the patient to reach a deeper state of relaxation, and in turn for the body to incorporate what is actually happening.
Treatments are set once a week for three weeks, and then progress is reassessed after the three-treatment point. An average of 3-8 sessions is generally required for permanent reversal of pain. Bowen treatments should not be required on an ongoing basis, and results should hold unless there is a re-injury. After pain resolution, preventative treatments every 6-12 months are encouraged.
The Bowen Technique is often a last stop for many who have run the circuit of various bodywork techniques, especially in the case of motor vehicle accidents, sciatica and chronic lower back pain. The Bowen Technique is completely safe for newborns, pregnant moms, athletes, and the very elderly and frail.
